Everyone has their personal preferences and criteria that must be met when deciding where to go boating. You’ll find your perfect fit where you feel most comfortable and at peace and may even become brave enough to try new lakes to discover more. My favorite lake is not the most beautiful and scenic but instead the most convenient and familiar. It is where I get the most time on the water and time spent with my family.
I have ventured out to other lakes and destinations that deserve some recognition
Portage Lakes State Park-Manchester, Ohio
Portage Lakes is popular for folks that enjoy cruising and taking the day in slow motion. The lake is made up of a system of waterways and about 2,000 acres in total. There are eight boat launches and several private marinas and docks. There are plenty of restaurants to stop at to enjoy live music and a cold drink. The lake has a under 400hsp limit so it’s mostly popular with pontoon boats, kayaks, and paddle boards.

Salt Fork State Park
Salt Fork is around 3,000 a cres and attracts many different types of boaters. There is no power limit on the water so it’s very popular with water sportsmen as well as fishing anglers. There are eight boat launches, and three marinas that offer rental docks for the season as well as boat and jet ski rentals. Salt Fork is a non residential lake so you can enjoy the beautiful surroundings in nature. There are two campgrounds in the park and plenty of Airbnb listings for rental. Two areas are designated boater-swimming areas as well as a 400 foot boater’s beach.
